How do you prepare a green juice?

Maybe you got a new juicer as a holiday gift. Maybe you're just curious to know why juicing is on a popularity upswing and you wonder what it involves. Whatever the reason you clicked on this blog, here's a quick explanation of what it's like to juice with one brand of juicer.

This particular juicer -- Breville Die-Cast Fountain Elite juicer --  is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. It retails for about $300; you may be able to find a bargain online or if you have a Bed Bath & Beyond coupon, you can get it for 20 percent less. Because it's die-cast, it has fewer parts to clean and fewer crevices for juice to leak into -- which simply means that it's easier to clean! There are several centrifugal (versus grinding) juicers that cost $100 or less that work just as well.

If you are going to juice every day, consider making room on your counter where your juicer can live full-time.

From start to finish, it takes about 15 minutes to juice with this juicer.

Are you wondering why in the world would you want to drink green juice (sweetened, in this case, with apples)? One of the best motivations is happiness.

More than 95 percent of the body's mood-regulating chemical, serotonin, is in the small intestine. Low levels of serotonin in the brain can cause depression, and low levels in the intestine can cause an irritable bowel. Juicing helps you boost your serotonin and, in turn, makes your brain and your belly happier.
