Nelson Mandela Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (born 7/18/18) is a South African politician who served as President of South Africa from 1994-1999, the first ever to be elected in a fully democratic election. He had been an anti-apartheid activist & was jailed for 27 years.

Nelson Mandela was released Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 from the hospital after being treated for a lung infection and having gallstones removed, a government spokesman said.
