CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds will return from the All-Star break by hosting the hottest team in baseball.
The New York Mets, at 51-44, have won nine straight games and enter the season's unofficial second half just a half-game behind the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League East. The Reds, meanwhile, are 46-50 and trail the first-place Chicago Cubs by 11½ games.
Pitching rotation
Johnny Cueto will start tonight, July 17, against New York's Johan Santana. Bronson Arroyo will go Friday against John Maine. The starters for Saturday and Sunday have not been revealed.
Hall of Fame induction
On Saturday, the Reds will induct shortstop Barry Larkin, outfielder Cesar Geronimo, pitcher Joey Jay and front office executive Garry Herrmann into the team's Hall of Fame during on-field ceremonies beginning at 7 p.m. The ceremony gives the game the unusual start time of 7:40.
Hairston has mild strain
Jerry Hairston Jr., who left Sunday's game against Milwaukee after he beat out a bunt in the third inning and was carried off the field, has a mild right hamstring strain, according to the MRI performed earlier this week.
Coming up
When New York leaves town, the Reds will complete their longest homestand of the season — 10 games — with three games against the San Diego Padres (37-58) and a weekend series against the Colorado Rockies (39-57).
