Dragons inch closer to playoffs

LANSING, Mich. — The Dayton Dragons took a major step toward qualifying for their second straight trip to the Midwest League playoffs Tuesday, Aug. 26, defeating the Lansing Lugnuts 6-3 and cutting their magic number to three to clinch the Eastern Division wild card.
While the Dragons were winning, the Fort Wayne Wizards were losing 6-1 to South Bend, giving the Dragons a four-game lead on the Wizards with six to play.
Luis Montano earned his 12th win, tossing six solid innings, and the Dragons built an early 4-0 lead on the way to improving their second-half record to 35-29.
Pair of All-Stars
Shortstop Zack Cozart and third baseman Brandon Waring have been named to the Midwest League Full-Season All-Star Team.
Cozart and Waring were two of 13 players named to the team that was selected in a vote by MWL managers.
The team includes one player per position with four pitchers.
Cozart has played in 103 games for the Dragons this season and is batting .278 with 14 home runs and 49 RBIs.
He leads Midwest
League shortstops in fielding percentage.
Waring leads the Dragons in home runs with 18 and RBIs with 64 while batting .264.
He was the starting third baseman for the Eastern Division in the Midwest League All-Star Game in June.
