Monday, August 25, 2008
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Jordan Newton delivered a pair of run-scoring singles as the West Michigan Whitecaps defeated the Dayton Dragons 4-2 on Sunday, Aug. 24.
The Dragons' loss coupled with a win by the Fort Wayne Wizards cut the Dragons' lead on the Wizards to three games with eight to play in the wild-card race.
West Michigan took advantage of an error by Neftali Soto to score an unearned run in the third inning to end a string of 13 straight scoreless innings by Dayton pitchers.
The Dragons scored on a two-run homer by Soto, his fifth of the season.
The Dragons travel to Lansing to begin a four-game series today at 7:05 p.m.
