Dragons coach's daughter ready to make it big

DAYTON — She was supposed to be the World Series baby, but Heather Bair was born early, on Oct. 8, 1982, during the playoffs.
Father Doug Bair was pitching for the St. Louis Cardinals then, and helped win those playoffs and the ensuing World Series.
Two years later, Heather remembers watching her father help win another World Series, for the Detroit Tigers.
"I remember being at the ballpark and it raining the night they won," Heather said Thursday, June 26, as she sat in the press box at Fifth Third Field on a visit to see her dad, who is the Dragons pitching coach. "I remember running after the game to the players' entrance — my mom in three-inch heels — and seeing people burning cars and everyone throwing toilet paper rolls."
She also remembers a couple years later at home in Cincinnati. At her Montessori school, students were asked what their parents did. Heather heard about doctors and dentists and teachers and stuff. When it was her turn, she said, "Oh, my dad sits at home reading hunting and auto magazines," Heather said. "He lets my mom cook and clean for him."
The teacher said, "Your father plays professional baseball."
"Yes, he does that, too," Heather said.
Not long after that, as a birthday present, Heather went with her parents on a trip to San Francisco when Doug was playing for the Oakland A's. She was able to attend a theatre production of "Cats," and announced that night, "That's what I want to be."
And that's what she is now, an actress, dancer and singer living in New York with designs of being in Broadway plays. She's close. She has been in several productions already, including on the national tour with Saturday Night Fever.
Currently, she is getting ready to play in "Beauty and the Beast" in upstate New York.Usually, he did.
