BENGALS NOTES
Palmer resting his elbow
Thursday, October 09, 2008
CINCINNATI — Just like last week, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer (inflamed right elbow) plans to rest his arm until Friday.
That's when he'll test it in practice and wait for the team doctors' evaluation. He hopes to be cleared medically to play Sunday, Oct. 12, against the New York Jets.
Palmer admittedly passed up some throws against Dallas that he'd normally make because he lacked confidence in his arm strength.
"There were a couple times where I didn't have the confidence I normally have, just because my arm's not the same as previous to the injury," he said. "I saw holes in certain spots that I kind of held back on and moved on to the next guy.
"Balls I normally zip right by somebody, I felt maybe there's a chance they get their hands on it or make a play on it. I just pulled some of those down and moved on."
Crowded house
Offensive coordinator Bob Bratkowski said the club is preparing for a tailback-by-committee approach with Chris Perry, Cedric Benson and Kenny Watson.
"We'll just dedicate a series (to each guy)," he said. "It depends on how that series goes. If you convert third downs into first downs, then that person will end up with more runs. If it's a three-and-out series, then we have to make a decision. Do we give him another series or do we go back to the guy that was in or go to the other guy?"
Staying loose
Wide receiver Chris Henry, who got in for less than 10 plays at Dallas, eagerly awaits his first catch.
"I'm going to go out there, run my routes and try to make something happen," he said. "I'm not expecting to have a big day. But if it does happen, I'm going to be ready."
'Action' Jackson
Strong safety Dexter Jackson returned to practice after missing four games with a fractured left thumb.
"The pin's out, but the screws are still in (the thumb)," he said. "My conditioning's good. I'm just getting my shoulders and hips adjusted again. Everything should be fine."
