Witt women fall in NCAC title game

By Staff Reports

Sunday, March 02, 2008

GAMBIER — Shawnee grad Sarah Perrine had nine points and was named the tournament's most valuable player as Denison won its fourth straight North Coast Athletic Conference title, beating Wittenberg 66-55 in Gambier, Ohio on Saturday, March 1.

Wittenberg pulled to within one at 53-52 with 3:21 remaining, but two free throws and a 3-pointer by Perrine made it 58-52 and all but sealed the victory for the Big Red (18-10).

Extras

Carrie Dyer had 17 points for Wittenberg, which finished its season 15-11. Ali Rohlfs added 12 points, while Stephanie Boardman had 10 points.

The game had nine lead changes, and was tied 11 times. The game was stopped with 58 seconds to go in the second half for about 15 minutes when a circuit blew, causing the lights to go out at Kenyon's Tomsich Arena.

Dyer and Boardman joined Perrine on the all-tournament team.

Cedarville men 81, Ohio Dominican 67

CEDARVILLE — Shawnee grad Ryan Short had 24 points as the NAIA Division II 18th-ranked Yellow Jackets (20-6) won an American Mideast Conference tournament semifinal game.

They'll travel to Malone in the AMC final at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 4.

Dayton 57, Fordham 50

NEW YORK — Brian Roberts scored 12 points to help Dayton beat Fordham 57-50 on Saturday night, moving the Flyers closer to a berth in the Atlantic 10 tournament.

Kurt Huelsman and Charles Little each added 11 points for the Flyers (18-9, 6-8 A-10), who had lost four of their previous five games.

Bryant Dunston had 18 points and 11 rebounds for the Rams (11-15, 5-9), who trailed 30-23 at the half in losing for the third time in four games.

Valparaiso 75,

Wright State 73 (OT)

VALPARAISO, Ind. — A Shawn Huff layup with one second left in overtime lifted Valparaiso over Wright State.

Valparaiso (19-12, 9-9 Horizon League) took a 13-point lead into halftime, but Wright State (20-9, 12-6) forced overtime when Scottie Wilson sank his only 3-pointer with about a minute to play.

Todd Brown led Wright State with 13 points. The loss means WSU finishes third in the Horizon and must win four games to win the league tournament. Had they won Saturday, WSU would have gotten a bye to the semifinals.

An Excuse to Celebrate

Mad Hatter Day

Mad Hatter

Mad Hatter Day is a day to do and say things that are usually considered absurd, but actually are very logical; and to avoid things that are considered normal, but are actually quite ludicrous. Kinda confusing, so today it should make perfect sense. Celebrate this mad holiday by doing…pretty much whatever you want. Things to do »

Get in the Halloween spirit with a ghost hunt or a haunted house tour [things to do]

Haunted House Waynesville

Perhaps you've heard stories from Room No. 4 at the Hammel House in downtown Waynesville — the site of a gruesome 19th-century murder. Or maybe you've heard tales from the Friends (Quaker) Meeting House. A candlelight flickers in the window, perhaps signaling long-dead conductors on the Underground Railroad. With more than 30 haunted houses, Chris Woodyard of Beavercreek, author of the "Haunted Ohio" book series, says Waynesville is easily the "most haunted town in Ohio." Call and schedule a haunted tour, and maybe you'll spot some ghosts. More »

Whether you're looking for a new spot for a date, a night out with the girls or whatever, The Melting Pot offers delicious fondue fun for everyone at its first area location in Washington Twp. For chocolate enthusiasts — and my sense is, there are many of you — dessert here is a gooey slice of heaven. More »
