Witt women rout Oberlin in NCAC quarterfinal

Staff Reports

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

SPRINGFIELD — A 21-6 run to start the second half carried the Wittenberg women's basketball team to a 79-49 victory over Oberlin on Tuesday, Feb. 26, in the quarterfinals of the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament at Pam Evans Smith Arena.

The Tigers led 28-24 at halftime before their game-deciding spurt, which included a 12-0 run when the score was 37-30.

The victory puts the No. 3 seed Tigers (14-10) in the NCAC semifinals for the 19th straight season. They will play No. 2 seed Ohio Wesleyan or No. 7 seed Hiram at 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 29, at Kenyon.

Ohio Wesleyan and Hiram were supposed to play Tuesday, but the game was delayed until today, Feb. 27, because of weather.

Katie Gregorevich led the Tigers with 21 points. Ali Rohlfs had 12. Carrie Dyer, Ellie Stonecash and Stephanie Boardman each tallied 10.

Wittenberg outrebounded Oberlin 46-30 and held it to 26.5 percent shooting in the second half. Oberlin (5-21) never led in the game.

Wittenberg also beat Oberlin in its previous game, 68-52 on Saturday, Feb. 23.
