Witt Notes
Perfect shooting day for Snyder
Sunday, February 10, 2008
SPRINGFIELD — Mark Snyder's line in Saturday's Wittenberg box score can't get much better: 5-of-5 from the field, 2-of-2 from the free-throw line, 12 points in all.
"I don't think that's ever happened in my career," a 6-foot-6 sophomore post. "Maybe I'll have to do something with that box score or something."
Extras
Snyder also had four assists in Wittenberg's 78-66 victory over Allegheny at Pam Evans Smith Arena.
In his first five appearances this season, Snyder shot 5-of-13 from the field. He has since increased his shooting percentage to a team-best 64 percent (46-of-72)
"He's continued to work in practice," Wittenberg coach Bill Brown said. "Somewhere in there, he's had some success, and he's gained some real confidence from that. I think he's a little bit more aggressive day in and day out than he has been. So I would say it's a combination of hard work, toughness mentally and new confidences. That's what's allowed him to turn the corner."
Snyder benefitted in part from Gregg Hill's season-high six assists on Saturday.
"Guys are just really finding me open right next to the hoop, usually on the block," Snyder said. "Greg did a couple nice jobs today. He found me two or three times for easy baskets."
Home domination
Unless the opponent is Wooster, Wittenberg is nearly unbeatable at home in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Not counting the Wooster games, the Tigers have won 54 in a row against NCAC opponents in Springfield.
Their last home loss to an NCAC team not named Wooster was to Earlham near the end of the 1999-2000 season.
Tough day for 'Bino
Wittenberg senior Brandan Barabino made his mark on Saturday's game with a rare dunk, but he was limited to 16 minutes because of foul trouble.
Barabino picked up his fourth foul with 12 minutes left, returned to the game with 3:08 left and then fouled out with 2:41 to go. It was just the fifth time a Tiger has fouled out this season.
Barabino still managed to score nine points.
"It was really tough for me to watch, but I know there's two parts to the game," Barabino said. "There's the people on the floor and the people on the bench. You can bring a lot of emotion from the bench. I guess that's what I was trying to do."
