Location

Hueston Woods State Park, located in Butler and Preble counties, is nearly 3,000 acres of natural resources for outdoor recreation, such as hiking, fishing, canoeing, and – unique to this region -- fossil hunting. The park surrounds Acton Lake, with campsites, cabins, and a resort lodge to entice the overnight visitor.

Lodge

  • 96-room Hueston Woods Lodge is situated on a bluff overlooking Acton Lake
  • Open year round
  • Dining room, meeting rooms, lounge, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, lighted tennis court

Cottages:

  • 2 Premium Cottages - includes a master bedroom suite/li>
  • 25 Family Cottages, two bedrooms, bath, kitchen, living room, and screened porch
  • 10 Efficiency Cottages, living-dining-sleeping area for 4 people, and private bath
  • All cottages have cooking and eating utensils, towels, and bedding

Camping:

  • 252 family campsites with electrical outlets on the west side of the lake
  • Equipped with electrical outlets, showers, flush toilets, laundry, trailer waste station
  • Picnic tables and fire rings are also provided
  • 236 non-electric sites available, vault-type latrines
  • Equipped with picnic tables, fire rings and vault-type latrines.
  • 3 Camper Cabins with built-in bunks, air conditioning, outdoor gas grill
  • 28 horseman campsites
  • Pets are permitted in a limited number of sites

Boating:

  • 10 horsepower limit on motors; canoes using motors have a limit of 4 horsepower
  • Launch ramps and public docks for boaters.
  • Boats available for rent at the marina

Fishing & hunting:

  • Hunting not permitted
  • Fish species include crappie, bluegill, channel catfish and largemouth bass
  • Valid Ohio fishing license is required for anglers over 16 years of age

Swimming:

  • 1,500 foot swimming beach on the west shore of the lake open to the public during the summer months
  • Concession stand
  • Bathhouse
  • Swimming is permitted from sunrise to sunset

Picnic areas:

  • Nine areas available with tables
  • Some sites have grills
  • No ground-fires allowed

Trails:

  • Over 10 miles of hiking trails
  • 18 miles of bridle trails, horseman's staging area, horseman's camping area, horse rental
  • 12 miles of off-road bicycle trails

Golf Course:

  • 18-hole, 7,005-yard, par 72 golf course

Basic skating ability and the willingness to learn one of the fastest-growing sports for women in the nation is all that's required. Check out an open practice and workshop for women ages 18 and older this Sunday, Nov. 23, at Kettering's Skateworld.
