Location & description:

Located in the midst of the fertile agricultural till plains and river valleys of Delaware County, Alum Creek's large reservoir and gently rolling span of fields and woodlands provides a hub of recreational activity.

Camping:

  • 289 family campsites, 286 with electricity, offer both wooded and sunny areas, some overlook the lake.
  • Campground has a beach and boat ramp for exclusive use of overnight guests.
  • Each site has a 50-amp electrical hookup.
  • 3 full-service campsites offer sewer and water hookups as well.
  • 5 Camper Cabins are also available during the summer months by reservation.
  • Heated shower facilities are located throughout the facility.
  • 3 fully-equipped Rent-A-RV units can be reserved for daily or weekly stays.
  • 30 horsemen's campsites

Boating:

  • Alum Creek Reservoir contains 3,387 acres of water
  • Unlimited horsepower permitted
  • Plenty of room for skiers
  • 5 launch ramps
  • Seasonal dock rentals available
  • Northern portion offers a quieter scene with tree-lined shores, shale cliffs and sheltered inlets for canoeists

Fishing & hunting:

  • The narrow coves, inlets offer fine catches of bass, bluegill, crappie, walleye and saugeye
  • Northern half of the park is best for the squirrel and deer hunter
  • Southern half of the park offers better opportunities for rabbit and other upland game
  • Valid Ohio hunting and fishing license are required
  • Mountain bike enthusiasts can use two trails off Lewis Center Road

Picnic areas:

  • Scenic picnic areas with tables, grills, restrooms and drinking water available
  • Two shelterhouses are maintained by the Army Corps of Engineers at the Alum Creek dam. Contact the Corps office at (614) 548-6151 for information regarding their use

Trails:

  • Over 40 miles of trail
  • 14.5 miles of bike trails
  • Riders must provide their own mounts
  • Primitive camping for horsepeople provided on Howard Road
  • Pressurized water and a latrine provided

Swimming:

  • 3,000-foot beach
  • Offers a changing area and concession stand
  • Beach is open during daylight hours only

The Gem City Rollergirls are looking for a few good women to join their team. Basic skating ability and the willingness to learn one of the fastest-growing sports for women in the nation is all that's required. Check out an open practice and workshop for women ages 18 and older this Sunday, Nov. 23, at Kettering's Skateworld.
