Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross represent not only the last 12 hours of Christ’s life but also our own struggles, Father Mike Bidwell of Sacred Heart Church in New Carlisle says.

“They mark a significant moment in the 12 hours,” Bidwell said. “But each one of those moments can be applied to our own lives. When we mention that Christ fell under the weight of the cross, it also signifies for us every time we fall under the weight of our own difficulties.”

Most Catholic churches, and some churches of other faiths, have the artwork depicting the 14 Stations of the Cross in their sanctuaries.

Bidwell said even though the stations show the pain and suffering, they also give hope because Christ got back up every time he fell.

“It’s not just the hours and suffering that he endured, but the moment of resurrection,” Bidwell said.
