Big changes coming for Red Lobster, Olive Garden

By Mark Fisher

Staff Writer

There are some significant menu overhauls coming at Darden Restaurants’ two flagship brands, Red Lobster and Olive Garden, according to this story from Nation’s Restaurant News.

This news comes hard on the heels of the story we wrote earlier this month about the complete remodeling of four Dayton-area Red Lobster locations and is apparently the result of some alarming numbers for the two giant restaurant brands: Same-store sales fell 3.9 percent at the 704-unit Red Lobster, and dropped 1.8 percent at the 792-unit Olive Garden, in the quarter that ended May 27, according to Darden officials and the NRN story.

According to the NRN story, Darden’s president and COO announced Red Lobster will introduce “the most comprehensive core menu change at the brand in the last decade” starting this fall. The new menu will include more items priced below $15 and will expand the number of non-seafood menu items.

Olive Garden is unveiling this week a new “Two for $25” special to generate traffic into its restaurants.
