DAYTON —

Beer trucks flooded the Oregon District on Tuesday as local bars stocked up for one of the biggest celebration nights of the year—Thanksgiving Eve.

“The night before Thanksgiving is in the top five as far as sales goes,” said Steve Tieber, a Dublin Pub co-owner.

Thanksgiving Eve ranks behind St. Patrick’s Day and New Years Eve, he added.

This week, Dublin Pub increased the amount of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum, Crown Royal and Red Bull and has added an additional six employees for the anticipated high volume Wednesday night.

“For us that’s about a 30 percent increase in staff,” Tieber said.

Thanksgiving marks the time of year when Hank’s Hole in the Wall starts serving Wild Turkey bourbon. Other than that, the bar doesn’t have to do much else to prepare for the large crowd expected Wednesday night.

“You really don’t have to do much,” said Greg Buchholz, the bar owner. “You open up and they come out.”

Johnny Hollis, a Riverside resident, said he plans to go out tonight after he gets off work despite the large crowd expected in the Oregon District.

“It’s the biggest night for bars in and around Dayton,” he said.

Dirk Robern, a customer inside Blind Bob’s, also said he plans to brave the crowds to spend time with friends.

“I want to drink to escape the holidays,” said Dirk Robern, a customer inside Blind Bob’s. “I want to rock out with my friends and family at my favorite neighborhood bar.”

Blind Bob’s plans to close its kitchen Wednesday night.

“It’s not that busy for food, but it will be busy for drinks,” said Kalani McDermott, a Blind Bob’s bartender.

Trolley Stop is expecting more people than the usual for a Wednesday night in November.

“We tend not allow large amounts of rowdy people here,” said Fletcher Austin, a Trolley Stop bartender. “But it’s nice to have people who are out to have a nice time while they’re in town.”

The Arrive Safe Program will offer free rides in Montgomery County during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend starting today. Call 937-449-9999 for transportation through the safe ride program.
