1) Urban Nights

You never know what will happen on Urban Nights. Like a fingerprint, each mounting of the twice-yearly event is distinct. However, change will certainly be in the air when an estimated 30,000 people turnout for the spring installment of this popular downtown street party in downtown Dayton from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday.

Like always, there will be gallery openings, live music, roaming street musicians and dining options scheduled to coincide with Urban Nights.

2) Spring Soulstice Gala

A Night at the Apollo is the theme of the 10th Annual Spring Soulstice Gala, which means plenty of soulful music in the spirit of the legendary Harlem venue that jumped started the careers of Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown and Lauryn Hill. This special anniversary fundraiser for Dayton Contemporary Dance Company will be presented at Dayton Convention Center, 22 E. Fifth St., Dayton, at 7 p.m. Saturday. Cost: $125. 3) Jupiter String Quartet

Since forming at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2001, the Jupiter String Quartet has been one of the most celebrated new ensembles in the United States. The group was recently appointed as Quartet in Residence at the Oberlin Conservatory. The Vanguard Concert series presents a performance from the Jupiter String Quartet in the Dayton Art Institute’s NCR Renaissance Auditorium, 456 Belmonte Park N., Dayton, at 8 p.m. Saturday. 4) “Jekyll & Hyde”

Robert Louis Stevenson is responsible for beloved novels such as “Treasure Island” and “Kidnapped” but few of his literary works remain as relevant to modern audiences as his 1886 novella, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.” The tale about dual personalities has been retold to varying degrees of success in different formats, including the hit Broadway play “Jekyll & Hyde.” Playhouse South presents the musical by Steve Cuden and Frank Wildhorn at Clark Haines Theatre, 3700 Far Hills Ave., Kettering, on Friday. Show times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with a special 2 p.m. matinee on Sunday, May 12. This production runs through Saturday, May 25. 5) Sideshow 8

Like spring flowers blooming toward the sun, the Dayton Circus Creative Collective and a group of volunteers have emerged again this year to showcase local creativity through an arts and music happening called the Sideshow. More than 50 visual artists and two dozen local musical acts will be displaying their talents when the eighth annual event is presented at the Yellow Cab Building, 700 E. Fourth St., Dayton, at 6 p.m. Friday and 7 p.m. Saturday,. Cost: free but donations are accepted. More info: www.daytoncircus.org.

6) ’80s Rewind

Louie Wood Jr., the local king of tribute shows, is back with another evening of local original bands taking a stab at songs popularized by other acts. The concert promoter’s latest theme night is ’80s Rewind at Canal Street Tavern, 308 E. First St., in Dayton at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 11. The fourth annual salute to the music of the 1980s features local acts such as Gathering Mercury, Loveless, Reyna Spears and the Broken Lights. 7) Piccadilly Circus

Agile acrobats, motorcycle daredevils, Cossack riders and high-energy clowns are just some of the big top-worthy performers under the spotlight when the Piccadilly Circus hits Hara Arena, 1001 Shiloh Springs Road, Trotwood, on Saturday and Sunday. 8) Songs of Kate Smith

From the 1930s through the 1950s there were few American singers as beloved as Kate Smith. She was a radio star before the age of television and remained a pop-culture staple for decades. Dayton Opera Star Gala presents mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe’s homage to the Virginia native’s indelible career in “The Songs of Kate Smith” at the Schuster Center, 1 Second and Main streets, Dayton, at 3 p.m. Sunday. 9) Go W/ The Flow

Since January 2012 Dayton-based yoga instructor Tori Reynolds and local musician Ben Rivet have been presenting “Go W/ The Flow.” The duo has toured nationally with this vinyasa class that adds live music to the rhythmic, breath-centered style of yoga. Reynolds and Rivet, who developed this unique program at Practice Yoga in the Oregon District, will help kickoff Five Rivers MetroPark’s Bike to Work Week at RiverScape MetroPark, 111 E. 10) Clint Black
