1) Miami Valley HomeWorld

Many home owners looking for renovation ideas turn to events such as Miami Valley HomeWorld. The massive annual home show, the biggest of its kind in the area, returns to Airport Expo Center, 3900 McCauley Drive, Vandalia, for two consecutive weekends, Feb. 1-3 and Feb. 8-10. Hundreds of exhibitors will be on hand displaying everything from windows, bathroom fixtures and aluminum siding to home security, fireplaces and painting services.

2) “The Intergalactic Nemesis”

Pop-culture mashups are nothing new, but few incorporates old-school entertainment with modern technology like writer-director Jason Neulander’s live-action graphic novel “The Intergalactic Nemesis.” Victoria Theatre Association’s People Unlimited Variety Series presents this mix of old-school radio drama, comic books and video projection at Victoria Theatre, 138 N. 3) Dayton Does Dayton

It’s a two-night celebration of homegrown original rock when Louie Wood Jr. from Midwest Promo and Concert Booking presents the third annual Dayton Does Dayton music festival at Canal Street Tavern, 308 E. First St., in Dayton on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2. My Latex Brain, Dark Backward, Dan Raridan and the Calientes, Kattie Dougherty of Real Lulu and other local musicians will pay tribute to Gem City music past and present by covering some of their favorite songs by other area artists. 4) “Cinderella”

For its second full-length production of the season, Dayton Ballet has selected the classic fairytale “Cinderella.” Dayton Ballet presents the world premiere of this iconic love story featuring music by Sergei Prokofiev at Victoria Theatre, 138 N. 5) Monster Jam

’Tis the season for indoor events, and the Nutter Center, 3640 Colonel Glenn Highway, Fairborn, has programmed two nights of four-wheeled entertainment sure to get any motorhead’s internal tachometer pegging red. 6) Battle of the Bands

Eight area bands will be vying for a spot at the 2013 Jamboree Music Festival in Toledo in April during a battle of the bands at Rockstar Pro Arena, 1106. E. Third St., Dayton, at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2. Participating bands are Hail to the King, States Away, Grim State, Here’s to the Heroes, Years Spent Silent, My Name in Vain, Johnny Tenspeed and Hemingway. This is an all-ages show. Cost: $10. 7) Corey Holcomb

Comedian Corey Holcomb has been in his share of romantic relationships over the years, some good and some bad. It’s his hilarious handling of the failed romances that has earned the Chicago native the onstage nickname the Ghetto Dr. Phil. Holcomb performs at the Funny Bone Comedy Club, 88 Plum St., The Greene, Beavercreek, on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2. Show times are 7:30 and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Cost: $20. 8) “Lombardi”

Tim Lile directs this story, set in the 1960s, about the legendary Green Bay Packers coach and the cub reporter assigned to discover the key to Vince Lombardi’s success. “Lombardi” opens at the Loft Theatre, 126 N. Main St., Dayton, with a preview night on Thursday, Feb. 7. The play runs through Feb. 24. Hall of Fame NFL veteran Paul Hornung will be the special guest on the official opening night, next Friday, Feb. 8. Most performances begin at 8 p.m., except for 2 p.m. Sunday matinees Feb. 10, 17 and 24, and special 7 p.m. shows on Sunday, Feb. 10, and Tuesdays, Feb. 12 and 19. 9) North Meets South

Internationally acclaimed prodigy Chad Hoopes began his violin studies at age 4. He was 13 in 2008 when his career kicked into high gear after winning first prize in the Young Artists Division of the Yehundi Menuhin International Violin Competition. Hoppes, now 18, is the featured player in the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra’s “North Meets South” concert at the Schuster Center, Second and Main streets, Dayton, at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 1-2. 10) First Friday

Viewing art in cozy, intimate local galleries is always a big part of the monthly First Friday art hops. However, it’s getting an even bigger focus during the latest winter installment of the citywide celebration of arts, culture, local commerce and more returns to downtown Dayton beginning at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1. Special events include the “Abstract Expressionist” paint party at CADC, 35 S. St. Clair St., the opening of “Salon des Refuses” at the Dayton Society of Painters and Sculptors, 48 High St., and the joint exhibition featuring photographer Francis Schanberger and abstract painter Bridgette Bogle at Blue Sky Gallery, 33 N.
