Camp Pathways Helps Grieving Children
Children who have lost a loved one have an opportunity to experience support, sharing and learning about grief through a program for children ages 7 to 17 presented by Pathways of Hope, the grief counseling service of Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. Advance registration is required. Camp Pathways offers an overnight camp experience and camp activities such as swimming, campfires, arts and crafts, canoeing, fishing, a climbing wall, rope course and music. In addition to these traditional camp activities, children participate in grief support activities and a moving memorial service honoring the loved ones lost by campers. Held at the Camp Joy Outdoor Education Center in Warren County, the 2013 Camp Pathways program will be offered Friday, June 21 and ends Sunday, June 23. Advance registration is recommended as campers are accepted on a space available basis. Children can attend regardless of whether Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties was involved in providing care to a family member. Fees for the camp are $20 for one camper; $30 for two campers; $40 for three or more. Scholarships are available to assist those with financial need. Hamilton Girls Inc. Summer Camp
The Girls Inc. Summer Program is for girls ages 8 and older and will be held June 10-Aug. 9. This program will be held Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the YWCA, located at 244 Dayton Street in Hamilton. The camp will offer age-appropriate learning in a safe and educational environment and activities will focus on various subjects including media, sports, leadership, art, safety, technology, community action and team building. Girls will hear from guest speakers, take trips to the library and swimming pool and more. Camp is $25 per week per girl. Half-day camp covering the basics of theater such as blocking, projection and character development. Campers will get to experience the entire production process from the auditions to the performance and get a basic knowledge of costume design, set design, directing and stage management. The last day you will learn how to decorate a cupcake cake with a 4th of July theme or design your own. All supplies will be provided to complete one Red, White and Blue cupcake cake. Summer Camp 2013 offers a variety of activities, weekly themes and weekly field trips that integrate academic support and recreation. Camp is highlighted with reading, science and math clubs led by Wittenberg University interns, culminating with a showcase in late July. The Springfield Family YMCA is offering a summer camp for children ages 5 (and finished kindergarten) through 13. The 50th Yellow Springs’ Summer Strings and Band Camp
Founded by Shirley Mullins, YSS&BC is for orchestral strings, wind band or percussion students with at least one to four years’ experience. The camp will run two weeks from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Campers can attend either or both weeks. Camp includes large ensemble and chamber music, private lessons, master classes, music theory, musicianship skills, conducting and fun. There will be a final concert at 7 p.m. in King’s Yard. They will perform in both small and large ensembles. There will also be a concert at the end of the first week of camp, also in King’s Yard. The Summer Strings and Band Camp Program receives support from the Yellow Springs Youth Orchestra Association, Community Council, the United Way and the YS public schools. Young Writers’ Summer Camp to be held at Antioch Writers’ Workshop, July 6-12, 2013
Antioch Writers’ Workshop will host a Young Writers’ Program at its 28th annual summer workshop, July 6-12, 2013 at Antioch University Midwest, 900 Dayton St., Yellow Springs. Young writers age 15-18 who live in the Miami Valley region will attend morning classes with Antioch Writers’ Workshop faculty and participants, and then convene in their own afternoon workshop with published author Trudy Krisher to work on their own manuscripts and on creative writing techniques. Deadline to apply is May 29 with letter of recommendation and a three-page sample of creative writing. Those accepted into the program receive a Young Writers’ scholarship to cover a portion of tuition. Tuition is $300. CAPS summer camp opportunities
There are two different summer camps for special needs students ages 13-22. Local children and young adults can explore nature through an action-packed week of fishing, looking for critters, hiking, crafts and more in the Greene County Parks & Trails’ series of Nature on the Go camps. City of Beavercreek Offers Summer Day Camp
The City of Beavercreek Parks, Recreation & Culture Department is offering Summer Day Camps for children ages 6-12 at Rotary Park, 2260 Dayton Xenia Road. The Raj Soin College of Business at Wright State University announces Summer Business Institute for High School Students, July 14-17
Wright State University’s Raj Soin College of Business is offering a four-day residential business institute for rising high school juniors and seniors that will give participants an opportunity to explore what real business people do. Participants will solve real business challenges for Scene 75, sharpen their business skills in team competitions and experience college campus life. This interactive, fast-paced residential session is limited to 25 students. Participants pay a $50 refundable reservation fee due upon acceptance and refunded upon completion. The four-day camp includes: interactive classes taught by Wright State University Raj Soin College of Business faculty and successful business leaders; all meals and 3 nights of campus housing with 24-hour staff supervision; supervised use of WSU’s campus recreation center, pool and rock-climbing wall; tickets, transportation and dinner to explore Scene 75 business challenges and opportunities; opportunity to meet with executives from WesBanco®, Deluxe Corp ® and Scene 75 in a final team competition and five $500 scholarships for winning team members who enroll as Wright State business majors. Discovery/Odyssey at Wright State University - Office of Pre-College Programs

Upward Bound Program - Wright State University - Office of Pre-College Programs
Upward Bound is a precollege program that is designed to motivate and provide academic skills for students from first-generation college and low-income families who are interested in pursuing an educational program beyond high school. Upward Bound is a year round program that includes a summer program where students live on campus for six weeks and participate in a variety of academic, social, and cultural activities. During the regular school year, Upward Bound student are in weekly contact with Upward Bound staff members including teachers and tutor-counselors through classes, tutoring and academic counseling sessions. Aviation Summer Camp at the WACO Air Musem
The WACO Air Museum will host an aviation camp for children in grades 4-6 from June 24 to July 28, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. Campers will build and fly gliders, Wright Brothers airplanes, kites, hot air balloons, paper rockets, rubber band powered airplanes, bottle rockets and boomerangs. Robotics Camp at the WACO Air Museum

Camp Pathways Offers Grieving Children Support
Children who have lost a loved one have an opportunity to experience support, sharing and learning about grief through a program for children ages 7 to 17 presented by Pathways of Hope, the grief counseling service of Hospice of Dayton. Advance registration is required. Camp Pathways offers an overnight camp experience and camp activities. Children participate in grief support activities and a moving memorial service honoring the loved ones lost by campers. Held at the Camp Joy Outdoor Education Center in Warren County, the 2013 Camp Pathways program will be offered June 21-23. Fees for the camp are $20 for one camper; $30 for two campers; $40 for three or more. Scholarships are available to assist those with financial need. The Society of American Military Engineers offers a very unique series of engineering camps designed for high school students who excel in math, science and technical courses and are interested in pursuing engineering in college. These one–week camps are high energy, hands–on events for students from across the country and around the world.
