Just because local low-power public radio station WSWO-LP specializes in rock ’n’ roll oldies doesn’t mean the all-volunteer staff isn’t looking toward the future. In late January, the station in Huber Heights that broadcasts terrestrially at 97.5 and 101.1 FM added a new streaming online broadcast and an app for Android devices. An iPhone app is coming soon.

“I’m the one that coined the phrase ‘Your community radio station,’ way back when we started nearly 10 years ago, and that’s what we want it to be,” station president Dave Bernard said. “We’ve already had e-mails from all over the United States — Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, California, Colorado and Washington — saying they’d found us.

“We’ve already got four new PayPal donations from people from outside the area that we never had before,” Bernard said. “We’ll see how it goes, but streaming is one of the ways we’re trying to get our signal out to more people and to keep the music alive.”
