Twenty area women, this blogger included, will square off in what, based solely on the smack that has been talked on the event’s Facebook page, will be the most fierce arm wrestling competition since Sylvester Stallone squared off against the unjust in the 1987 action flick “Over the Top.”

Event organizer Aja Delaney, who will be wrestling as Aja “Ate-ya for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner,” said the Cinco De Mayo-infused fundraiser is about the empowerment of women and fun. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Trolley Stop, 530 E. Fifth St.

It is being organized by PUSH (Professionals United for Sexual Health), a volunteer group of Planned Parenthood safe sex advocates.

Proceeds will help support renovations at Planned Parenthood’s Dayton Health Center downtown.

It was the brainchild of a PUSH Dayton board member.

“This is good way to show off women’s strengths in a not so ‘jello wrestling’ scenario,” Delaney said with a laugh.

Signed copies of “Over the Top” movie posters are among the items to be auctioned.

That epic arm wrestling movie will play during bouts featuring costumed contestants, Delaney said.

She wore a sombrero and thigh-high socks during a practice match against Molly “Gypsy Diamond” Nevius.

There will be a surprise performance and attendees can fill in March Madness-style brackets.

“V.I.P ticket holders will have their own seated area.” Delaney said. “We will have unlimited chips and salsa (for V.I.Ps) as well as a bundle of raffle tickets.”

General admission is $10. V.I.P seating is $25.

The event will feature drink specials.

Delaney said the Planned Parenthood clinic provides services to both men and women, such as STD testing, breast exams and birth control.

Delaney said funding cuts have had a dramatic impact on the clinic.

“Our funds are definitely needed,” she said.
