My Latex Brain wins Playoffs

By Don Thrasher

My Latex Brain has won this year’s Dayton Band Playoffs, the competition sponsored by Canal Street Tavern.

In the past, the annual competition has been won the majority of the time by newer bands, including Mona in 2004 and Magic Jackson in 2008, which each formed only months before winning in its respective years. However, a veteran band occasionally takes the top prize, as with 2002 winner the Paul David Bach Band and this year’s champs, My Latex Brain.

Since 1999, the trio — B. Hoops (vocals, keys), Chris Corn (bass) and Roger Owsley (drums) — has been thrilling audiences with its potent brand of hard rock distilled from equal parts punk, metal, new wave and industrial. That challenging recipe and countless live shows helped My Latex Brain defeat Armentana, A New Creation and Hereafter in the Sept. 1 finals at Canal Street.

My Latex Brain makes its triumphant return to Canal Street Tavern, 308 E. First St., Dayton, at 9:30 p.m. next Friday, Sept. 21.
