Beginning next month, Cityfolk will present a new season of concerts for fans of multicultural music in the Dayton area.
Listeners can enjoy Celtic music from Ireland and Prince Edward Island, contemporary folk music from Africa and jazz inspired by the legends of New Orleans, Cuba and Paris.
Tickets for all events are available now and may be purchased on the Web, over the phone or in person at the Cityfolk box office. Discounts are given for groups, senior citizens, members of the military, students and children. If available, student rush tickets are offered a half-hour prior to curtain time.
“We usually have seats open on the night of a show,” said executive director Kathleen Alter, though she suggested purchasing tickets in advance for smaller locations with limited seating.
“In response to the focus groups that we conducted in February we have moved some of our concerts to smaller venues like Gilly’s,” Alter said. Other concert sites are the University of Dayton and Stivers School for the Arts.
Three of this year’s concerts qualify for the Culture Works Passport: Fatoumata Diawara, Hot Club of Detroit and Dervish. Supporters of the Culture Works annual campaign receive a Passport entitling them to two tickets for the price of one at numerous performing arts events, as well as other discounts on dining and shopping in the area.
Cityfolk also offers a gift card that can be used to purchase tickets or merchandise. “They are popular at the holidays,” said Alter. “It’s a way to give a concert to someone while letting them pick which one they would prefer to see.”
