Ellis Paul is in different creative stages on three very different self-released projects. The New England-based singer-songwriter is still touring in support of his latest family album, “The Hero in You.” He’s simultaneously finalizing a new Christmas CD set for release in early December and wrapping up writing material for the official follow-up to his 2010 adult album, “The Day After Everything Changed.”

Paul, performing at Canal Street Tavern on Saturday, recently took a break from music to answer a few questions via telephone.

Q: What’s happening today?

A: “There’s a lot going on. One day it’s Christmas, and the next day I’m working on the next album, so I’m definitely multitasking. I’m recording a banjo on a Christmas record in about an hour, which will be fun. I’m in the final stages now. We’ll definitely have it done in November and the digital version will be out pretty soon. I’m doing it all on my own label so I don’t have any time restraints. The physical version will be done by December 1.”

Q: What’s the focus of this record?

A: “I’ve got nine original Christmas songs I’ve written by myself or with other people involved. I’m probably going to put on two classics to sort of ground the record and so people will recognize something familiar on the first couple of listens. The funny thing with Christmas records is everyone is listening to how you interpret the songs so that needs to be at least a tiny part of it.”

Q: Why record a Christmas album now?

A: “I like Christmas songs because they’re like jingles for Christmas and they only come around once a year. I’m actually doing it as part of my fundraising campaign for people who are contributing to the next adult record. That should be coming out in 2013 and contributors will get it before anybody else.”

Q: How’s the fundraising going?

A: “So far so good. The last one set the bar pretty high — we raised about 100-grand — but we were already up to 12-grand in the first week. I’m sure a lot more money will come in. A lot of people go to the Web site looking for Christmas gifts so I think there will be a lot more donations, which will be good.”

Q: Anything you’d like to add?

A: “I’m looking forward to coming back to Canal Street. I love it. I’ve been playing there, literally, for 20 years. It’s a very important place for me.”
