By Don Thrasher

Origin story: Dez Fafara formed DevilDriver in Santa Barbara, Calif. in 2003 after the singer became disillusioned with his band Coal Chamber.

On tour: The hard rock outfit performs at McGuffy’s House of Rock, 5418 Burkhardt Road, in Dayton at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10. Doors open at 7 p.m. Cost: $20. Machine Gun Majesty and Architects of Doom will also perform.

Rock city: “From the start of my career, I can remember that Dayton, Ohio is a great metal town,” Fafara said. “From the very get-go, with my very first band, I remember it was a good time every time we’d come through there.”

Band members: Fafara (vocals), Jeff Kendrick (guitar), Mike Spreitzer (guitar), Jon Miller (bass) and John Boecklin (drums).

Discography: “DevilDriver”(2003), “The Fury of Our Maker’s Hand” (2005), “The Last Kind Words” (2007), “Pray for Villains” (2009) and “Beast” (2011).

The new deal: After a decade with Roadrunner Records, Fafara announced in June the band had signed a deal with Napalm Records. “They have the passion and the drive we as a band were looking for,” Fafara said. “I’m looking forward to working together on DevilDriver’s next release.”

From the heart: “I want to thank everybody for the opportunity to do art, play music and travel the world playing live shows,” Fafara said. “Anybody that has been behind me from the beginning up until now, or even if you just found us on the last record, it’s very much appreciated.”
