While it’s only been around 12 months and is based in Dayton, Rock Star Pro Arena is on the rise.

The wrestling venue, which celebrates its one-year anniversary on Friday, Feb. 8, is attracting an expanding fan base. The Third Street facility also boasts a growing stable of wrestlers ranked internationally by Pro Wrestling Illustrated, including Sami Callahan, ranked 52 in the world, along with Rich Swann at 276 and George “Gee Gee” Bradley at 421.

“They say as a small business, if you survive two years, you’ve made it,” Bradley said. “We’ve made it through the first year and kept the doors open.”

Bradley, who works with Cody Hawk and brothers Ben and Chad Parker, says thriving and surviving is the result of a lot of multitasking from everyone involved.

“Our head trainer Cody is in charge of talent, and he’s put together a hell of a roster,” Bradley said. “We’ve had a bunch of outside talent. People from around the country and other promotions have heard about us and contacted us about coming to work for us. Everything has really come together.”

The crew at Rockstar Pro Arena is commemorating its first year with a Friday night anniversary celebration.

“That show is built around the best of 2012 awards,” Bradley said. “We’re running voting on our Facebook page where fans can pick the winners for things like match of the year, wrestler of the year and feud of the year. They’ve been blowing up our Facebook, chiming in with their votes.”

The entire lineup wasn’t confirmed at press time, but some participants include Benjamin Kimera, Dustin “The Dustin” Thomas, Pete Swags, C.W. Scott and Bradley, who wrestles under his nickname, Gee Gee. The main event features “Shogun” Aaron Williams vs. “Dark Star” Matt Taylor.

“Since it’s the one-year anniversary we’re pulling out all the stops,” Bradley said. “The award show is sort of the main event, but we have a big card that night, too.”

Rockstar Pro Arena hosts weekly Wednesday night wrestling matches and a monthly Friday edition, but the fun doesn’t end in the ring. The facility also houses a wrestling training school and is growing into a popular venue for special events and rock concerts. The next special event is an appearance by former Ring of Honor World champion Nigel McGuinness, who is screening the documentary “The Last McGuinness” on Feb. 15.

“Dayton is very much a wrestling town,” Bradley said. “It always has been, and we’re really glad to be part of it.”
