We all have bucket lists, don’t we? Goals you’d like to accomplish, dreams you want to fulfill and experiences you’d like to have before you die.
Sometimes, it’s big time, jumping from a parachute or writing a novel, for example. Other times, it’s a little more common: getting to your ideal weight, taking college classes. At least, that’s for us normal people.
To quote Brad Paisley, “when you’re a celebrity” your goals are much loftier. Brad’s new album, “Wheelhouse,” comes out April 9. If its first single, “Southern Comfort Zone,” is any indication, this album should be on your bucket list of things to buy.
In an interview with Brad this week, my morning radio show partner Frye Guy and I were asking him about some noncountry music related things he has accomplished, including a chuckalicious parody song dedicated to child reality star Alana Thompson (called “The Ballad of Honey Boo Boo”) and a guest spot on “South Park.”
For Brad, the “South Park” tribute was “the bucket list item of all bucket lists!” “When they called and said, ‘Do you want to be yourself in an episode?’ it flipped me out!” he laughed. “Because usually they don’t ask, and they impersonate you, and you’re usually making love to a farm animal or die a horrible death. … So that’s hard to beat for me. It’s still my Twitter avatar (identification illustration) with me as my ‘South Park’ character, and I doubt I’ll ever change it.”
Country singer Alan Jackson’s wife had recently fulfilled a dream of Jackson’s by finding the first car he ever owned. Denise Jackson was able to find the 1955 Ford Thunderbird, have it fully restored and give it to her husband as a gift.
Brad told us his first car was a used Chevy Cavalier that he paid for himself doing music gigs in his home state of West Virginia when he was around 16. Is that on his bucket list? Brad says, “If my wife, (actress Kimberly Williams-Paisley) goes and finds this Cavalier somewhere and spends any kind of money fixing it up, I’m gonna kill her!” Guess that’s a no!
But one more big item on Brad’s bucket list is something that may be shared by many football fans in Ohio. “Can we someday get the Cleveland Browns to the Super Bowl?! It has to happen eventually, right? I’ve been a Browns fan all my life,” insert very heavy sigh here. “There’s got to be something!” Being a Browns fan myself, I hear you Brad. But it might easier to find that Cavalier.
