Band name: Five Year Mission.

Formed: 2010.

Home base: Future space by way of Indianapolis.

Crew members: Mike Rittenhouse, Andy Fark, Patrick O’Connor, Noah Butler and Chris Spurgin.

Inside the mission: The band began as a vehicle to write and record original songs about seeking out new life forms and exploring strange new worlds as seen in the classic 1960s television series “Star Trek.”

Beaming down: Five Year Mission will be in Dayton for two performances on Saturday, Feb. 9. There’s an acoustic set during a meet-and-greet at Bell Book & Comic, 458 Patterson Road, Dayton, from 1 to 3 p.m., and a full rock show at Omega Music, 318 E. Fifth St., in Dayton’s Oregon Historic District at 9 p.m. Both shows are free and open to all ages.

Quotable pt. 1: “We are totally serious about the concept,” Rittenhouse said. “We love this project and hold it to the absolute highest standards.”

Discography: “Year One” (2010), “Year Two” (2011), “The Trouble With Tribles” EP (2012).

Quotable pt. 2: “When I came up with the concept of writing a song for every episode of ‘Star Trek,’ I truly had no idea how awesome an undertaking it was going to be,” Rittenhouse said. “In less than a year we jumped from a couple of guys getting our musical geek on to a well-greased machine that is selling albums worldwide.”

Up next: Completing “Year Three,” which will feature songs about the third and final season of the original sci-fi series.
