Local group Demolition Crew has been delivering a mix of reggae and ska to local venues for a decade and according to trombone-playing leader Stan Middleton, that hard work and focus is paying off.
“I’ve made a few good contacts and now, based on our reputation, some things are coming my way instead of me having to seek them out,” he said. “Someone will see us play somewhere and recommend us to someone else.”
That kind of word-of-mouth support landed the group its new weekly Thursday night residency at The Fox II Nightclub, 2217 James H. McGee Blvd., in Dayton.
“With the diversity of clubs also comes a diversity of audience,” Middleton said. “I’m really trying to reach into more of the community. I named the band Demolition Crew because my philosophy when I started was I wanted it to be a band that’s all about knocking down the barriers that stand between people.”
Demolition Crew has several other local shows on the horizon, including a slot on the Michelob Dayton Reggae Festival at Dave Hall Plaza on Sunday, Sept. 4.
“That’s something all the reggae groups in the region look forward to every year,” Middleton said. “It’s our chance to get together and do our thing for a nice, big festival audience. In addition to that, the same evening Demolition Crew is hosting the J-Alans after party and jam session. We’re going to make a whole day and night of it.”
Demolition Crew performs at The Fox II Nightclub from 8 p.m. to midnight Thursdays through Oct. 6. Cost: $5. More info: (937) 268-2764. Artist info: www.myspace.com/demolitioncrewska.
