Summer Patrol to help kids beat the heat

Sunday, July 20, 2008

By Meredith Moss

Staff Writer

DAYTON — Summer Patrol, a swimming pool activity program for kids, is once again being sponsored by Time Warner Cable of Southwest Ohio.

The idea is to help youngsters in the community beat the heat through pool races, corn hole games and raffle drawings. The program, now in its ninth year, takes place at four Dayton pools.

Youngsters can win beach towels, sunglasses and summer toys.

The project also includes a $500 donation to each of the participating pools and allows kids free admission on Summer Patrol Days. Monies also help with pool maintenance costs for Dayton's public pools.

The fun kicks off on Wednesday, July 23, at the Fairview Pool and will travel to other pools through August.

The schedule is: 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 23 at Fairview Pool, 900 McCleary Ave. (Pizza Party), 2-4 p.m. Thursday, July 24 at Burkham Pool, 803 S. Broadway, Dayton, (Pizza Party), 1-3 p.m. at Mullins Memorial Pool, 210 Fairgrounds Road in Xenia, (date to be announced) and 1-3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 14 at Trotwood Municipal Pool, 4000 Lake Center Drive in Dayton.
