The red neon sign promises "Good Food." Perhaps Christopher's Restaurant should add "And Good For You, Too."

The red neon sign promises "Good Food." Perhaps Christopher's Restaurant should add "And Good For You, Too."
Tucked away in the Woodlane Plaza shopping center, it's easy to miss the locally owned eatery in its 14th year. Seek it out. Christopher's, long a breakfast favorite for our family, offers excellent home-style cooking for breakfast, lunch and dinner every day but Sunday.
Specials change monthly, and entrees include traditional fare such as baby-back ribs or cabbage rolls, as well as healthier choices such as salmon filet, portobello mushrooms on fettuccine and a variety of salad entrees.
Avocados and sprouts figure in several menu choices, notably the delicious Sunriser omelet and several sandwiches. And diners can choose a side dish of fruit instead of home fries or chips. Vegetarians will find many alternatives on the menu, and political progressives will note that Christopher's offers Brother Bear's free-trade organic coffee and that this month wait staff are contributing a portion of their tips to The Other Place homeless shelter.
The food: The cabbage rolls were spectacular, with tender but not mushy leaves wrapped around the traditional meat filling. Unlike many places, Christopher's doesn't douse them in tomato sauce, instead giving diners the choice of sauce or sauerkraut topping. Real mashed potatoes on the side included the skins, an acquired taste for some. The chicken Parmesan was juicy, although the marinara sauce was a bit bland. My daughter liked her meaty lasagna but found the edges overcooked and hard.
The only real disappointment was the bread. We had three types — a roll, garlic bread and the herbed wheat on my daughter's sandwich. All lacked character and tasted somewhat stale.
The prices: A good range. Most breakfast and lunch choices are less than $7 and dinner is from about $6 to $14.
Bottom line: Families will like the moderate prices and good food. And even though you might not be able to get the kids to choose fruit over fries or the black-bean burger instead of ground beef, at least the alternatives are there.

Christopher's Restaurant has the most variety of any dining establishment I have every visited. I have taken large parties here and no one complains that hey can't find something they absolutely love. Christopher's serves Breakfast Lunch and Dinner and rivals any chain restaurant in the value the offer for superior quality food. I just recently found out they have a web site www.christophers.biz and you can look at the menu there before you visit. Simply put, they have it all, catering, carry out and fantastic food all day long.

A sort of coffee sandwich shop with an eclectic menu. An "earthy" hippie type cliental with friendly service.
