A changing seasonal menu at the Ginger Grill, just off Interstate 75 in Tipp City, allows the fusion-fare concept of local restaurateur Art Chin to keep evolving. It's evident in his barbecue ribs, with a sauce that marries Asian and American ingredients. It is complex and not overly sweet; the ribs are tender but not falling off the bone, and the sprinkle of sesame seeds announces that these are ribs with a difference.

For those looking for more visibly Asian fare, the new curried lamb spring rolls are the star of the new menu. They are small ones, like those served in Asia, very crisp and with a touch of heat. The plum cinnamon sauce is really unnecessary, and some diners prefer dipping the appetizers in Chin's house-made chile oil. They are worth the trip alone, outshining the tuna spring roll, prettily presented with its pink center showing. The tuna gets most of its flavor from the pickled ginger and wasabi creme fraiche on the plate.

Among the seasonal entrees, the nod to lighter fare is found in chicken marinated in mirin, the sweet Japanese wine, served over ramen noodles bathing in a house-made miso broth with footnotes of heat. Thinly shredded daikon adds crisp contrast, and a shower of fried threads of ginger is a very appealing final touch.

As an added attraction, Chin is expanding his wine list at customer request and will be adding more premium wines, in half bottles. He also has a premium beer list.

We were fortunate enough on Wednesday evening (along with other customers) to preview this weekend's (June 8 and 9) seafood special--soft-shelled crabs with a special sauce, sesame fried rice, and steamed asparagus. Absolutely fabulous--don't miss it! We are not employees or members of the Chin family. Just loyal and happy customers. E & B
