Show off dance moves; try to win $500, TV spot
Friday, March 12, 2010
You don't just think you can dance – you know you can dance? Well, here is your chance to prove it.
Public access TV show "Queeries?" and Club Masque are teaming up to host a dance contest for everyone who likes to move, no matter what style.
"Dance Your mASSque Off" will be held Wednesday, March 17, at the club at 34 Jefferson St., and the contest is open to absolutely any style of dance from break dancing to ballet to ballroom. The winner will make a special TV appearance on "Queeries?" and get $500.
Interested participants can sign up in advance at www.clubmasque.com. Registration the day of the contest is allowed, but participants are encouraged to get there by 9 p.m. to get a spot. Acts can be solo, couples or groups.
"Queeries?" executive producer Randy Phillips said 10 participants have signed up, so spectators are guaranteed a diverse show.
It was watching the dance floor at Masque that inspired Phillips to start the contest.
He said he was at the club one night when a group of people spontaneously broke out into a break dancing session.
"The ability of some of these guys was just amazing," he said.
The winner will be determined by four local celebrity judges and the "fifth judge," the audience, Phillips said. He said the judges will be making fun comments to each dancer "American Idol" style.
The entire event will be filmed and broadcast on DATV (cable Channel 20), which airs "Queeries?" at 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays.
"Queeries?" is a variety program aimed at the gay community in Dayton. The program frequently airs segments featuring local arts events.
