Gala gathering
They wear white to raise green in cancer fight
Wednesday, May 07, 2008
What/when/where?
The "2008 White Out Cancer Goes Global Fund Raiser" is planned for 7 p.m. until midnight May 17 at the Commander Aero Hangar at Dayton-Wright Brothers Airport, 10570 Springboro Pike, Miamisburg.
Why are they partying?
This special event, the brainstorm of Trusha and Sonu Aggarwal, was created four years ago after Aggarwal's wife and mother had been diagnosed with cancer and successfully treated.
"We wanted to throw an all-white-attire party at our house in celebration," explains Aggarwal, who said the couple also wanted to become more involved with the American Cancer Society.
The result was the White Out Cancer Ball, which last year attracted 400 people and raised $43,000 for research, education, advocacy and patient services programs.
What's in store?
The year's gala event will take participants around the world with food stations representing various global tastes — from Kenya and Brazil to Greece and Canada. Entertainment will be by Velvet Crush. There also will be a live and silent auction, with items ranging from tickets to Ohio State University football games to diamonds and vacations.
