The Dayton area offers a variety of scenic locations and choices forthe perfect proposal.
You've got the ring, you've got the love, but where are you going to pop the question?
Aullwood Audobon Center and Farm
- Basics: 1000 Aullwood Rd. Dayton, Ohio, 45414. (937) 890-7360. Open from Monday-Saturday, 9 am-5 pm, and Sunday 1-5 pm. Admission is $4 for adults, and $2 for children under 18 (children under 2 are free).
- The Scoop: A gorgeously preserved habitat full of pristine woods, streams, prairies and meadows.
- Where To Pop: The Garden of Eden is the idea, so probably on a meadow or one of the trails through the evergreen groves. The organic farm (and its accompanying smell of livestock) is out.
Carriage Rides
- Basics: CJ Carriages. 781 Xenia Rd. Xenia, OH 45385. 937-266-7966. www.cjcarriages.com
- The Scoop: Decorated with greenery, ribbons, mane rolls, flowers, a driver dressed in the livery of your choice, and even the played CD of your choice, romantic evenings is just one of several occasions that CJ Carriages cater to. A surprise engagement package runs at $350 if you do it in Xenia, where they're located. There are additional transportation costs if they bring the carriage to you.
- Where To Pop: Optional. The carriage is great, but proper scenery would make a great supplement. So wait until you pass a nice hedgerow, as opposed to the local BP.
Wegerzyn Gardens MetroPark
- Basics: 1301 E. Siebenthaler Rd. (937) 277-6545. www.metroparks.org. Open weekdays from 9 am-5 pm. Admission is free.
- The Scoop: Instead of having the roses delivered to her, you can take her to the roses, lots of roses, and all kinds of lovely flowers at this park that features at least seven varieties of formal gardens.
- Where To Pop: Probably the rose and perennial garden, as opposed to the swamp forest. Also try to steer clear of the bratty kids who are out there digging holes and learning about plants.
Air Tours
- Basics: Flamingo Air Inc. 262 Wilmer Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio, 45226. (513) 321-PINK. www.flamingoair.net.
- The Scoop: A one-hour private flight within which you receive champagne, chocolates, and a privately curtained space. The flight cost is $299, and is available at any time providing the plane is in-hangar.
- Where To Pop: Optional. The Cincinnati skyline is breathtaking, and Flamingo promises that their pilots are VERY DISCREET. What the all-caps emphasis is intended to imply I can't begin to guess.
