Looking for all-you-can-eat asian cuisine? China Garden Buffet has got you covered.
Asian buffets have their ubiquitous dishes — whoever General Tso was, his descendants should sue for royalties, citing the fact that the fried-chicken-coated-with-sweet-tangy-sauce dish appears at virtually every Chinese buffet in the land. And if snow crabs ever go extinct, I have no doubt Asian buffets will be to blame.
But even within the Dayton area's Asian buffets — some of which are part of a chain — there's an occasional, welcome burst of individuality.
The best way to discover that individuality and to get the most out of Asian buffet-style restaurants: go at peak hours, when the dishes are turning over quickly and fresh versions are coming out of the kitchen constantly. Avoid off hours, when the dishes sit rather forlornly under the lights, and the stir-fried vegetables slowly go limp.
This list spotlights some of the largest buffets, which have the greatest variety of dishes and most frequent turnover. All are open seven days a week. Prices are fairly consistent, with lunches running about $6-$7, and dinners usually $8 to $10. These buffets generally also offer carry-out, by the take-home box or, in some cases, by the pound.
