ActiveDayton's Best of Dayton contest is a way for our site visitors to informally express their opinions about local entertainment options. Don't mistake it for market research or scientific opinion polling. Nominees in each category are chosen by the ActiveDayton staff from our own knowledge and suggestions from readers. If your business gets left out of the voting, please don't take it personally.
Voting is restricted to one vote per computer. Totals registered by our servers will be considered final.
Voting in each category will run from noon-ish Monday until noon-ish the following Monday. We're human and that's lunch time, so there might be a little variation on when voting will begin and end. But we'll count votes until we officially end the voting.
Oh yeah, if you decide to cheat — like using some sort of automated voting — we reserve the right to delete you from the list of nominees, reset our poll to zero votes at an arbitrary time or just eliminate you from the final results. How we decide to do this is up to us, but nominees getting many votes per minute will be prime suspects, as will those getting all their votes from too few IP addresses.
We'll also eliminate you as a nominee in any future similar contests sponsored by ActiveDayton or our company's other sites and publications.
Again, the way to get lots of votes is to get the word out to your customers by e-mail, your own web site, signs in your business or wearing a sandwich board.
If your business wins your category, we're fine with you advertising that you were voted "Best of Dayton" in your category, just as long as you mention that the voting was on ActiveDayton.com. Put it on signs, coasters, tatoos or menus — everyone should know how good you are. But you really shouldn't be talking about this year's win more than a couple of years down the road — going any longer than that is sort of like the Cincinnati Reds telling everyone how great they are because they won the World Series in 1990.

"Back to the '80s," an area premiere, opens Friday, Nov. 6, for three weekends in Kettering. The retro show is an account of 1989 high school senior class, as recalled by a man in his 30s. Unrequited love, popularity (and its opposite), a debate about CDs replacing cassette tapes, student elections, a stolen speech, new kids in school and an English teacher in a magazine centerfold are among the plot lines. There are 20 songs, including "Footloose," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "You Give Love a Bad Name." Like, totally awesome! » More
