King’s Landing has consistently been one of the best sounding, most professional bands that I have ever had the privilege of running sound for. They are all down-to-Earth musicians and down-to-Earth just plain damn good guys. I don’t ever have to deal with egos or whining and complaining — they deserve the win in this contest. Best country band in Dayton? Check their Myspace for their schedule — Kentucky, Nashville, and all over Ohio — not just the Dayton area.

I’m not one of The Alabastards band members, and yet I want to vote for them!!! Look all the way down the comments, and you’ll see that there are a lot of women wanting to vote for them, as well as men, that are NOT members of the band. Get your facts straight!

My vote is for The Alabastards! They’re doing a style of music that there’s just definitely not enough of around! REAL Country!

Since its such a big deal to you guys about playing original music, ALL 4 BANDS nominated have original material. Hmmm Gene Bowshier has released several cds that have actually sold pretty well. Kings Landing has original material that has been played on radio all acroos the country with great reviews. So now that you know this, What else are you going to complain about besides losing.

Roy,

First off I have better things to do than sit around dicking off on myspace. I just cleared my personal site cause I am to Busy Making Music to update it. Our myspace and website are being created by actual professional designers at the moment. I have over 500 original songs, and whether you believe that or not I could honestly care less. We, The Alabastards make original country music. We have had countless fans tell you that on here!

July 13, 2009 9:46 AM | Link to this

two step??? how do we know if you play originals or not. on easy creeks myspace is marshall tucker and on your (greg shaddix) there is no music? so how do we know what you sound like?

I am gonna ghost vote for the Alabastards on this; since they are not on the nominee list. As for the name…it’s the same kick in the teeth as the real country/southern music they play. I guess if they want to be popular on this blog station, they should change their name to- “Promise not to perform original music but, will jump around on stage to appease OCMA” NOT!

By Two-Step

July 13, 2009 12:49 AM | Link to this

How can the Ohio Country Music Association say it doesn’t matter if you play covers are not? That’s absolutely absurd. That all country music is! It’s a song! A real song! Not smoke and mirrors and a*s shaking! It’s a real heart felt song! Easy Creek, and The Alabastards…..that’s country music. Plain and simple.

By Two-Step

July 13, 2009 12:43 AM | Link to this

I know some of the guys from Easy Creek, they are great! And they are great because they play their own music. I’m not saying that other bands aren’t good because they play covers, but you’ll never be the best if you spend all your time doing other peoples work. You say you are looking for raw talent? Your looking for a carbon copy of a Nashville machine made sound. If that’s what you are looking for, then I know for a fact I don’t my music anywhere near this debate.

By Ohios Country Music Association

July 12, 2009 10:30 PM | Link to this

Easy Creek I have heard of and seen live. Good show I must say but not very energetic. What the OCMA is looking for is raw talent, energy, stage presence, crowd following. As you can tell some of the bands that are nominated has every bit of that. It doesnt matter if you sing original music or covers, its the way you perform is what keeps you alive in the music industry these days, so I wouldnt be saying anything about these bands playing covers. I gurantee they will be around for years and year

HOW CAN BANDS THAT LIVE AND PLAY IN TROY AND TIPP CITY AND SPRINGFIELD THINK THAT THEY ARE DAYTONS BEST BAND. THEY SHOULD TRY TO BE THE BEST BAND WHERE THEY LIVE. I HAVE BEEN TO EASY CREEKS MYSPACE AND ALL I HEARD WAS MARSHALL TUCKER. ALABASTARDS , I HEARD NOTHING, NO MUSIC.

I am really impressed with the band Easy Creek. I would love to see them up on the poll next time. Really talented, really fun to watch and easy to listen to. They have a differant sound than most bands and it is really catchy. Love the original music. I found these guys on myspace.com/easycreek and also at easycreek.name for more info

Ok first off it is “The Alabastards”, and it is our original name. We were not nominated because our fans don’t read this publication or frequent this site. Now yes I understand the rules, and no I don’t care. Our fans are talking about us on here, and that’s the way they are nominating us!

By Ohios Country Music Association

July 12, 2009 12:17 PM | Link to this

All I can say is if you want to be voted for, YOU HAVE TO BE NOMINATED. If Alabastards are so good, you would think their fans would have nominated them.. Maybe Next Year.

Guys.. geesh… this is simple, When the list was made, there were chances to create nominations to be added or removed, rather than complaining about it, why didn’t you just nominate your band.

I will not vote either till The Alabastards are included!!!! This is by far the best ORIGINAL country band. Nashville hasn’t made a country album in so long now it isn’t funny. So Nashville recording artist doesn’t mean a whole lot to the fans of real country music fans. The Alabastards do!!

i gotta say kings landing is awesome. they sure put on a heck of a show and pack in a great crowd of people. i drive 2 hours just to go see these guys play 2 or 3 times a month. i even went to french lick casino and resort with them for the battle of the bands last month. they so rock, and even my 5 year old twin boys love them to. you guys are great keep up the good work. i give you guys 100 percent of my support…

I won’t be able to cast my vote until the “Alabastards” are in the local country band lineup. Plain and simple the Alabastards are the real deal. Shaddix and the band wrap around the lyrics and melodies like calloused hands on an ice cold longneck. From the moaning steel guitar, lonesome harp, to the 5 string banjo, Alabastards evokes images of smoke filled honky tonks of yesteryear and is just what this area needs when it comes to true country music. Give them a listen and prove me wrong!

By Ohios Country Music Association

Well lets see, Gene Bowsheir & Kings Landing are Nashville Recording Artist well known around Ohio as well as many other states. If you havent heard of these 2 bands then you really need to get out more. Both bands schedules are packed full and looks like no slowing down anytime soon. And OH YES Ohio does have a Country Music Association.

July 11, 2009 4:06 PM | Link to this

Seems one ought to be able to have a greater choice than these 4. Dry Branch has been around for decades; they must be in their 60s. My vote would be for Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers but they’re really bluegrass, not country as such.

By Jenn

July 11, 2009 4:02 PM | Link to this

I have never even heard of these four bands! What a crock! The Alabastards are it hands down - They are exactly what a band is supposed to be - CREATIVE and ORIGINAL just like the FANTASTIC music they play!

Come out and see them - if you don’t have a blast it’s because you were looking to have a bad time!

By Greg Shaddix

The Alabastards from Troy, Ohio are by far the best country band out there today. Mix of blues, rock and real country! Not the pretty Nashville style. But real heart hurting in forgiving country!
