Taco Bell, really? I wouldn’t let my dog eat Taco Bell! I hve not tried all on the list. I am qualified to assess Mexican Food however, being a foodie, and having been born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. They have real Mexicans there man, including my first love. Tacos (El Rancho Grande) has always treated my family-like family, and there food is authentic regional. Be sure to order non gringo (ie corn vs. flour tortillas, and the real sauce you order from the back!

We make a 30 minute drive at least once a week for LA FIESTA on Rt. 41 just west of Troy. The food is fresh & tasty, service is the friendliest of any place around. They always have a big hello when we arrive & they’re very kid friendly. The food is the best of any place we’ve tried, and we’ve been to many on the list. Can personally recommend their Fajitas, Pollo Empanizado, Chile Colorado, Carnitas, Tacos & even Chicken Tenders! Try it, try it! You will see!

I voted Pepitos, but Cazadores in Franklin needs to be on this list. Check it out! East Second St in Franklin. Take Exit 38 going south on 75.

If you are going to include Hot Head, Chipotle, Qdoba, Taco Bell….why not Moe’s Southwest Grill? Easily the best of the bunch, but not sure why any fast food places are on this list.

Our favorite is El Rancho Grande. Absolutely THE BEST hot salsa (you have to ask for it, gringos!) anywhere! Great food, great waitstaff….we’re there at least once a week.

La Fiesta in Troy is the BEST EVER…. The food is always great, the service is fantastic, and it’s extremely inexpensive. This place is so good, people will wait an hour to eat here on the weekends. You have to try it! When you go, save room for the Sopapillas(sp?)

Our family LOVES Mexican food. Our all time favorite and the restaurant most often requested by the grandchildren: Pepito’s on Catalpa. We’ve been going there for 30 years. My grands lamented when Carmen (waitstaff) left. Consistent quality.

But lately, we’ve been cheating and going to Taqueria Mixteca. They have the best tacos! Beans & rice are bland. Shrimp are delicious. The restaurant itself is a dive! Bathrooms—out side (like a gas station).

I want to vote for El Sobrero in Troy, but it’s not on your list. Very authentic, very good! Also, big props to the owner who hosts a fee Thanksgiving dinner every year for the less fortunate among us.

Los Reyes is #1 for us ! We love the Salsa and Chips. The portions are very filling and they have great lunch specials even on the weekend. The Fried Ice Cream and Churos at just awesome ! You must go Amigo!

El Rancho Grande is the best Mexican food, IMO. I was born and raised in Texas and love good Tex-Mex food. I am in ohio right now and place a premium on good mexican food. The only thing I would say about Rancho Grande is don’t go there for lunch. The food is still good, but it is rushed, but the restaurant is always full at lunch, so take that for what it’s worth. The prices at dinner are pretty cheap, esp. for the quality and quantity of food. I promise I have nothing to gain by plugging them.

I haven’t tred most of these but I am lookgn for real authentic Mexican food - would really love to find authentic ceviche. Anyone have any ercommendations?

BTW, Chipolte;s is okay for what it is but it is not “Mexican.”

I love El Sombrero! I wish they would open a location around Centerville, though. The closest to me is in Troy, but it is worth the drive!

Los Reyes is the best by far. No one else can compare. We come from out of state to eat there. Staff is friendly, prices cheap, and the portions are filling! Most other places in the Dayton area have tasteless, watered-down salsa. Not Los Reyes! If you love Mexican food, you need to try this place!

Go back to the totally awesome '80s this weekend [things to do]

80s fashionista

"Back to the '80s," an area premiere, opens Friday, Nov. 6, for three weekends in Kettering. The retro show is an account of 1989 high school senior class, as recalled by a man in his 30s. Unrequited love, popularity (and its opposite), a debate about CDs replacing cassette tapes, student elections, a stolen speech, new kids in school and an English teacher in a magazine centerfold are among the plot lines. There are 20 songs, including "Footloose," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "You Give Love a Bad Name." Like, totally awesome! » More
