Next to these 7 states, Ohio’s alcohol laws look positively enlightened

Check out this news release from the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States.

Stunning, isn’t it, that seven states would still have on their books Prohibition-era laws banning the sale of alcohol on Election Day. (Thankfully, Ohio escapes the embarrassment — this time — although two neighboring states come off as fools.)

Hard to disagree with the council’s description of the laws as a “ridiculous relic.”

We actually pay these lawmakers, right?

If you want an example of archaic, take a look at the Mississippi laws and the state board’s distribution system

Mark, yes we in KY can’t sell wine tomorrow. That’s why the Monday before is so darn busy. For us retailers, it’s a bit of a day off (although we still get deliveries).

Growing up in Georgia, I believe they had to amend the state constitution to allow beer sales on SUnday. This nearly prevented the Milwaukee Braves from moving to Atlanta in ~1965.
