Today is grand opening for 160-seat Trotwood restaurant

TROTWOOD — The new restaurant called Taste that we first told you about in August is scheduled to open at 11 a.m. today at 2555 Shiloh Springs Road near Ohio 49 and Salem Ave.

Taste seats 160, employs 25 and offers full-service dining as well as musical entertainment nightly. It is owned by Jason Thomas of Englewood, a Dayton native who works for LexisNexis and has traveled extensively as part of his job. Thomas said he found the lack of non-chain restaurant options in the Trotwood and Englewood areas frustrating.

“I’m excited about getting the opportunity to offer this community something that hasn’t been here in years,” Thomas said.

The site formerly housed an Applebee’s restaurant that had been closed for at least five years. The extensive renovation of the building and the opening of the new full-service restaurant have been praised by Trotwood Mayor Joyce S. Cameron and city officials who said Taste could serve as a catalyst for retail and commercial development in the area.

The Taste lunch menu include soups such as Caribbean Crab Chili and Gumbo Chicken & Shrimp; Salads such as Caesar and Cobb; and sandwiches such as Chicken Reuben, Grilled Portobello Mushroom and Blackened or Fried Catfish. The new restaurant’s dinner menu includes entrees such as Pasta Jambalaya, Filet Mignon, Jamaican Fried Chicken and Almond-Crusted Tilapia; and small plates such as Crab Cakes, Jerk Chicken Wings, Creole Meatballs and Baked Brie. Desserts include Brandy Peach Cobbler and Sweet Potato Pecan Pie.

Taste has a full liquor license. It is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The live music will be offered on weekdays and weekends and will focus on jazz, blues and R&B, Thomas said.

Tonight, on Friday Oct. 28, the musical group My Soul will perform R&B and “neo-soul” starting at 10:30 p.m., Thomas said.

For more information, call (937) 854-7060 or check out the Taste Facebook page.
