New bakery-cafe opens in Centerville

CENTERVILLE — Sweet Dots Bakery Cafe has opened at 101 E. Alex-Bell Road Suite 111 in the Cross Pointe shopping center.

Sweet Dots specializes in cupcakes, serving 30 different flavors, and also prepares sheet cakes, decorated bundt cakes, cobblers such as apple and peach, and pies such as sweet potato, pumpkin and pecan. It also serves savory dishes such as quiches, gumbo and pot pie. The cafe seats 10 people.

The bakery is owned by Tawana Knight of Miamisburg and Lolita Stevenson of Dayton. Knight, a Dayton native, holds degrees in hospitality management and culinary arts and has managed restaurants in California before returning to Dayton. Stevenson holds a degree in engineering technology from Central State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from what is now Antioch University Midwest. She has worked for the U.S. Corps of Engineers and as a teacher in the Dayton Public Schools and as an administrator in the ISUS schools of Cincinnati and Dayton. Both Knight and Stevenson said they have always loved baking and seized an opportunity to open their own shop.

Sweet Dots’ hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday and Monday. For more information, call the bakery-cafe at (937) 432-9340 or check out the Sweet Dots Facebook page.
