Kettering barbecue restaurant closes
KETTERING — The Bar-B-Q Hut, 3800 Wilmington Pike, served its last meal Sunday.
A marquee on the sign in front of the restaurant Sunday advised customers that it was their “last chance” to buy a half-slab ribs dinner for $9.95. A manager of the restaurant confirmed late Sunday afternoon that it was the restaurant’s last day. She referred questions to owner Sharon Morris, who could not be reached Sunday.
The long-time barbecue restaurant closes at a time when the barbecue segment of the restaurant industry has gotten much more competitive in the Dayton area. Just in the last two years, large new sit-down eateries have opened in Kettering (OinkADoodleMoo), Beavercreek (Woody’s) and Englewood (Company 7), battling with existing restaurant such as Old Hickory Bar-B-Que, Hickory Bar-B-Que, City Barbeque, Smokey Bones, Hickory River and Smokin’ for local barbecue enthusiasts’ allegiances.
