New Anticoli-owned restaurant poised to open

MIAMISBURG — The new Giuliano, an Anticoli Tavern that we first told you about back in October is poised to open at 67 S. Main St. within the next 10 days, according to the Giuliano Facebook page.

Restaurant owners Chris Anticoli and his father Leo — part of a family that traces its Dayton-area restaurant roots to 1931 — posted an update on Giuliano’s Facebook page announcing that the restaurant “will be open this month” and is “accepting call-ahead seating for Easter” on April 24. Easter hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Leo Anticoli said this morning that the restaurant is still in the inspection phase, and the precise opening date is not set. The inspections “should be completed next week sometime,” which is why the restaurant is accepting Easter seating requests, Anticoli said.

Initially, Giuliano will be open during the evenings only, but plans call for hours to expand to include lunchtime, probably this fall, Anticoli said.

The new tavern, located in the former Chimney’s Inn in downtown Miamisburg, will open with about 35 employees and will seat about 140, with party room available for an additional 32, Anticoli said.

The new venture carries on an 80-year family tradition: Anticoli’s restaurant, and later Caffe Anticoli, operated in the Dayton area in three different locations: from 1931 to 1951, on East Fifth Street in the St. Anne’s Hill District of Dayton; 1951 to 2000 on Salem Avenue in north Dayton; and from 2000 to 2010 at 8268 N. Main St. in Clayton. Caffe Anticoli closed in mid-August after the restaurant owners and their landlord failed to reach agreement on a new lease.

The “Giuliano” name refers to the family’s Italian hometown, where members of Anticoli’s extended family still live, Leo Anticoli said.
