Co-owner of Jay’s Restaurant in critical condition after collapse
DAYTON — Jay’s Restaurant co-owner Idy Haverstick was listed in critical condition at Miami Valley Hospital Sunday after she collapsed inside the restaurant’s dining room Friday night.
Restaurant patrons performed CPR on Haverstick, 71, of Centerville, until Dayton medics arrived and transported her to MVH. A hospital spokeswoman said Sunday that Haverstick was listed in critical condition. Amy Haverstick — Idy’s daughter and the co-owner and general manager of the restaurant — said doctors believe her mother may have gone into cardiac arrest and are performing tests to determine the course of treatment.
Idy Haverstick’s husband Jay founded the restaurant at 225 E. Sixth St. in Dayton’s Oregon Historic District 35 years ago. Jay Haverstick died in May 2009 while hiking and taking photographs in Death Valley, California.
Amy Haverstick has overseen the day-to-day operations of Jay’s for several years. Idy often serves as a hostess at the restaurant.
