Restaurants open on Thanksgiving Day

Here’s a “sneak peek” at a story scheduled to run in Friday’s (11-19-10) Dayon Daily News Go section. Some of these restaurants are filling up fast, or have already filled slots in the most popular times, so if you’re planning to go out to eat Thanksgiving Day, don’t delay in making reservations. And if you can’t wait until Thanksgiving to get your turkey fix, The Stockyards Inn, 1065 Springfield St. in Dayton, is offering a special turkey meal with traditional sides at both lunch ($7.95) and dinner ($9.95) Thursday, Nov. 18. Call 254-3576 for details.

In the 31 years that l’Auberge has been serving diners at the Kettering restaurant, it has never opened for Thanksgiving Day dinner — until this year.

“We’ve had quite a few requests to do this,” said l’Auberge owner Josef Reif, who said the struggling economy also played a role in his decision to open on the holiday.

About one in 10 Americans celebrates Thanksgiving by dining out, and as many as half of Americans supplement their meals with ready-to-eat takeout items of some kind, according to the National Restaurant Association.

In the Dayton area, more than a dozen restaurants let us know they were open on the holiday and offering a special Thanksgiving menu of some sort, and those restaurants are listed here. Several more restaurants and sports bars are opening Thanksgiving evening for regular dinner menu and hours, such as T.G.I. Friday’s, which is inviting customers to “Plan Your Escape” Thanksgiving night. Some restaurants such as Pasha Grill at The Greene and Lone Star Steakhouse off of Miller Lane are open during the day on Thanksgiving but are offering their regular menu only. And some restaurants, including Bob Evans, are closed on Thanksgiving Day but are promoting holiday dinners that can be picked up in advance.
