Pizza Hut to close Englewood restaurant tonight

A spokesman for Pizza Hut said today that the chain’s sit-down restaurant at 607 Taywood Road in Englewood will close at the end of the business day today, July 19.

The restaurant is one of seven Pizzas Huts that are closing in southwest Ohio. Four of the targeted stores are in Cincinnati, and one each in Hamilton and Middletown are either closed or slated to close in the coming weeks, Pizza Hut spokesman Chris Fuller said.

Fuller would not discuss the factors that led to the decision to close the seven restaurants, citing “competitive business reasons.” He also would not disclose how many are employed at the Englewood Pizza Hut.

Fuller said the restaurants that are closing may be remodeled and may reopen in their current location, or there may be other newly constructed Pizza Hut restaurants that could open nearby. But he said the chain is not ready to announce detailed plans.

A person who answered the phone at the Englewood Pizza Hut but who declined to give a name said the restaurant has nine employees, two of whom are transferring to other Pizza Hut locations.

The mood in the restaurant was somber, the employee said, although business was brisk at lunchtime on Monday, the restaurant’s last full day of operations.

The restaurant has been in its current location since the late 1960s, the employee said, “and people have heard we are closing and are coming in to say goodbye.”

I wonder if so many are closing because of the $10 pizzas? I know I have bought a lot more Pizza Hut since they’ve had it.

I am the daughter of an employee there! I will be sad to see yet another business go! The staff were always friendly and though the building may have needed repair the place was very clean and the food was made properly! People may have negative opinions of the place who have probably never eaten there or let themselves experience the atmosphere over snobbish expectations. This place has a lived in charm about it and people seem to overlook that! Even so the fact remains that this is a business that has been ran in the community for a long time and it is so sad to see it among so many failed businesses. Also, when did this discussion turn to politics? Lets remember the location for what it was!

Both LIBERALS and CONSERVATIVES need to shut up in the comments. This is about a business closing, not some political BS session.

Joe, sorry that you lost your job and have not been able to find a new one. Unlike the conservatives who seem to think the only reason for the long term unemployed is that they are lazy, this liberal recognizes that most people want to work but cannot find jobs. Just remember that it is the President you castigate who understands your situation and is trying to provide help for the long term unemployed, and the Republicans I expect you support who lump you in with the lazy welfare bums.

By Scott: What an ignorant statment. Just what I expect from a clueless conservative. The worst president ever left office in January 2009. This sounds silly no matter which way it is written.

This is very sad to see another business closed. I always got good service there at the lunch buffet, especially from Kat. And, last tuesday, I stopped in to pick up a pizza and it was the best pizza I have ever gotten from any pizza hut. Will miss the place.

Sorry to see it go - loved the lunch buffet. Great staff, always friendly. To “Joe” - get a job and stop blaming others for your situation. We have all been there - just some of us pick ourselves up and not whine like a baby.

Oh well, everyone head to Cassano’s. The best pizza in town. A newly open store, very nice and yes they have draft beer!! They also deliver to englewood and union. The manager is awesome, you will get great service.

I’m happy to see that place close. The last time I was there with my daughter the manager allowed an employee to have her grandaughter there ALL day and the kid sat at my table annoying us all during our meal and gave my daughter chips and pop when I told her not to, and they didn’t do anything to stop her when I complained. Poor mgmt in that place

I crack up at all the knuckleheads that blame the new administration for every downfall this year. We had 8 long years of an administration that spent money on a war, brought our boys back with no legs and that put our economy right here where it is now.Voted worst prez ever remember?

@Joe Your comment, what does this have to do with Pizza Hut going out of business? You wouldn’t know a sign of the economy picking up if it hit you in the face.

Maybe if they would have updated the place and provided better service they would not be closing. I won’t do business anyplace that doesn’t offer good service. I will continue to drive to Marion’s or Godfather’s pizza.

Aaron-I live in Englewood and have lived in Englewood since 1985 and I disagree with your assessment. We go to that very restaurant approx. once a month and there are ALWAYS people in the dining room eating dinner and is much busier for lunch. Now, I do have to say that it is in desperate need of an update but it still had an enjoyable atomsphere. If they don’t replace it with a newer version, then this restaurant will be greatly missed.

I have lived in the N’mont area since 2002 and have been in that Pizza Hut ONCE. It was horribly old and outdated. We rarely eat “dine-in” pizza but if we do, there are better options in Donatos’, Cassano’s, LaRosa’s, and Marions (if we want burned pizza).

We’ve lived in Englewood for 7 years and maybe ate there twice. Always Marions, Casano’s, and now that Donato’s is closer to us Pizza Hut is at the bottom with Dominos.

I don’t believe this restaurant has ever been remodeled - not since I first went there in the late 70s. Dining-in pizza has declined greatly with the proliferation of pizza take-out. The last time I went there in the evening, they didn’t even have draft beer. I think most of their business was the lunchtime pizza buffet. It was a dinosaur.

Joe, do you even live in Englewood? Or the Nmont area, at least? I live a block away from Pizza Hut, and there are never any cars in the parking lot. AND HAVENT BEEN! Because Marion’s Pizza is easily the dominant pizza eat-in place…otherwise, you deliver.

Ah, another sign that the economy is really picking up steam. Why people have so much disposible income they are eating out again! Would someone please ‘coach’ these poor employees that this is the season of Hope and Change that the Annointed One brought.. No, I am not trying to be cruel or insensitive… rather these words are spoken by one who lost his job a year ago and is still looking! We need a solution to this economy that WORKS, not one that forces companies to close locations that have been open over 40 years!

Product quality has declined over the years. Used to love Pizza Hut.
