Zagat guide wants your reviews of local restaurants

Zagat, the New York City-based maker of “best restaurant” pocket guides, is soliciting diners’ opinions of Ohio restaurants.

You can make your voice heard at this Zagat web site, and if you do so before this Sunday, June 13, you will be eligible for a “thank-you” reward from Zagat Survey, the publisher of the Zagat guides. Rewards include a copy of Zagat’s “2011 America’s Top Restaurants” guide, or a 90-day subscription to Zagat.com, or an entry into a “Night on the Town” sweepstakes valued at $500, according to Nicholas Sampogna, communications coordinator for Zagat Survey.

I’m a bit late in letting you know about this Zagat solicitation, but sometimes, we Miami Valley residents work best under deadline pressure, right? Besides, even though the “Ohio Restaurants” surveying link will be featured on the Zagat.com voting page only until this Sunday, June 13, voting is available on Zagat.com year-round, Sampogna said.

I have not signed up to be a surveyor, but I’m told by Sampogna that there is a “Write-in votes” link on the bottom of the survey page for restaurants not seen in the survey list.

I asked Sampogna via email whether there would be a separate Dayton-area section in the guide, and he responded that it appears the guide will focus on the three Cs only — Cleveland, Columbus, Cincy.

“Due to the editorial space in our America’s Top Restaurants survey, not all of the markets across the country can be included in the print edition, however we always encourage consumers to utilize our updated online content and free voting (available year-round) on ZAGAT.com,” the Zagat spokesman said.

There is a “Write-in votes” link on the bottom of the survey page for restaurants not seen in the survey list — at least that’s what the Zagat folks tell me.

I agree. Just tried voting but there was no place for Dayton. Couldn’t even writ in The Meadowlark. Both places you mentioned, The Meadowlark (Wileys) and The Winds (Wiley used to work there) are very good indeed. I would like to add the Wellington Grill in Beavercreek as well. Try it, they are very good.

Meadowlark and The Winds are two locals that certainly are unique and could be in the poll. While the steak and BBQ places people like so much are all well and good, there are scores (and scores and scores if you’re talking the BBQ places) of similar places in any decent-sized metro area.

I’m with ya on that one, null. Wiley is amazing in the kitchen. Voting now.

It would be nice to see The Meadowlark in Zagat’s… get out there and vote!

Wow. A Mark Fisher column where he’s allowing comments. Why have you not been doing so recently, sir, if I might ask? Is it because of folks like nyc, where negativity about Dayton cuisine was his norm?

I’m on the Zagat survey team. While a handful of chains that have Dayton locations (Brio, Bravo, Dewey’s) are on the poll for their three C’s locations, Rue Dumaine is the only Dayton-based restaurant in the poll. It is the only non-3C’s restaurant to vote on, too.
