New pizza recipe boosts Domino’s sales
The completely overhauled recipe for Domino’s Pizza that we told you about back in December has been such a hit with customers that Domino’s sales and income surged in the first quarter of 2010, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.
The pizza chain’s CEO attributed all of the sales gains to the pizza overhaul, which changed the crust, sauce and cheese.
Domino’s already claimed a taste-test victory over its competitors in February.
I tried a Domino’s pizza in February and found it to be an improvement over the Domino’s I recalled from earlier years.
But I’ll tell you the two best pizzas I’ve eaten in the last month came from Spinoza’s Gourmet Pizza and Salads at the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek and from Jet’s Pizza at 5843 Far Hills Ave. in Washington Twp., which specializes in deep-dish pizzas. That doesn’t mean those are my favorite pizza places in town, necessarily, but they served the best pizza I’ve eaten in the last month.
What’s the best pizza you’ve had in the past month?

We liked Dominoes until they changed their recipe. It changed for the worse in my opinion and now we eat Papa Johns or Pizza Hut over Dominoes. Diana’s Pizza in West Milton, OH is by far the best pizza I have ever had. Always hot, fresh and tasty.

The new Dominos recipe isn’t bad, the crust tastes better . Deweys and Marions are both very good. Rosatis in Springboro is the best in the area though, mainly their thin crust pizza.

Definitely Hoagies on N. Dixie has one of a kind pizza and subs. If you’ve never eaten at Hoagies you need to give it a try! But for big name competition I still prefer Papa Johns by far over Dominoes

Bentinos in Waynesville is near perfect for a classic new york style. About 12 bucks for an extra large 1 topping. Delicious!

Hoagies on Dixie has the best pizza around here. Dominos new recipe is a lot better, especially the garlic crust, but I’d still only eat it if the price was really good (which it is right now).

I stopped buying from Domino’s Pizza many years ago because I thought their pizza had very little flavor. I was willing to give them a try when they introduced their new recipe, but unfortunately I still find them to be quite unpalatable. Marion’s and Cassano’s will still be my pizza of choice, but as others have said, Joe’s on Airway is quite good. They are just a little too far away for me to pickup carry-out.

Best pizza in town? Pizza dough in a bag from Trader Joe’s grocery in Kettering. Roll the dough out on a stone or sheet and add you own fresh toppings. Experiment. Great family activity. Nothing beats homemade.

Not trying to be mean but…you have some issues with your article. Normally one doesn’t find many grammatical or spelling errors in a publication of this size but I ran across two in the same sentence. Like I said, I’m not trying to be mean but you may want to do a more thorough job of proofreading before publishing. “which specializes on deep-dish pizzas. That doesn’t mean those are my favorite pizza places in town, necessarily, but they served best pizza I’ve eaten in the last month.”

Godfathers Pizza near Cloud Park is great; Marions is still tops and Classic Pizza in HH is a close second.

In the Dayton area, it’s rare to find gourmet pizza like you would find in larger cities with more varied pizza chains and restaurants. Dewey’s Pizza is always great and their recipes and toppings are great. They have pizzas that are traditional and others that sound crazy, too. Great tasting and unique product. Love it! http://www.deweyspizza.com/

I can believe this. I had not bought Domino’s for quite some time, but because of the “new” pizza I thought I would give it a try. Unfortunately still not any good. Kramers, Palermo’s…my favorites.

I don’t think their surge in sales has anything to do with the change. I think it has to do with them dropping their prices. You can get medium pizzas for $5.99 for 1 topping…that will satisfy for a quick dinner. I like the new taste; but that’s not what keeps me going there…

Domino’s can do whatever they want change recipe’s, lower prices, etc. Joe’s Pizza on Airway by Smithville Rd is, has always been the best pizza in town. They do not have to change anything, they do not have to deliver, nor pre-make their pizzas. I have been going for years and each time the pizza is always fresh and delicious. It amazes me that by eating the same pizza over and over again one would seem to want to venture out. Not me nor 100’s of other customers. If you haven’t tried Joe’s Pizza then you really haven’t eaten a real pizza.

To be honest, I’ve tried the new Domino’s; my opinion is that it’s the same old too much dough pizza with a nice new garlic sauce on the ring and nothing else. Is it an improvement over it’s predecessor? I think so. Is it better than it’s competition (specifically Papa John’s and Pizza Hut)? Unequivocally, no. At the end of the day, I’m still unimpressed. Domino’s is still last on my list.

In the break-neck, deal-driven, fast-food business…it ain’t the recipe that’s selling Domino’s Pizza. Soon as they stop (practically) giving away the product…Domino’s sales will tank. End of Story

We like Doubleday’s Monster Pizza. Doubleday’s is located in the Crosse Pointe Shopping Center on E. Alex Bell Rd. near the route 48 exit from I-675 in Centerville.
