Three new Japanese restaurants coming to Dayton area

A few months ago, researchers from the National Restaurant Association identified Japanese cuisine as one of the “hot menu trends” for 2010.

They weren’t kidding.

Three new Japanese restaurants are scheduled to open in the coming months in the Dayton area, including a Beavercreek hibachi-style steakhouse slated to open next week. All three are moving into existing spaces where previous restaurants — including a Fuddrucker’s and a Ruby Tuesday — have closed. Two of the restaurants, at least at this point, have virtually identical names but no connection to one another.

Here are the details:

— Osaka Japanese Restaurant, 2476 Commons Blvd. in a former Fuddrucker’s restaurant near the Mall at Fairfield Commons in Beavercreek, is scheduled to open next week, probably Wednesday or Thursday, April 21 or 22, the restaurant’s co-owner, Yan Lin of Beavercreek, said today, April 16. The restaurant will seat about 160 and will employ at least 15 people, Lin said.

Osaka has 13 hibachi grills and offers several hibachi dinner options, and also has a sushi bar with specialty sushi rolls. The menu also includes noodle dishes and teriyaki. It has a full bar.

The restaurant will be open seven days a week: 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for lunch, and 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday for dinner, and until 11 p.m. on Friday. Saturday hours are 1 p.m. to 11 p.m., and it will be open Sundays noon to 9:30 p.m. The restaurant’s phone number is (937) 320-1188.

— Sushi Hana, 1501 Lyons Road in Washington Twp., is scheduled to open in about a month, owner John Chung said this morning, April 16, as he oversaw renovations in the location previously occupied by Asia Cafe. The restaurant will seat 75 to 80 diners and will employ about 10 people, Chung said. The menu will include hibachi-style dinners, Japanese noodle dishes and Korean specialties, Chung said.

— A restaurant entitled Osaka Japanese Steakhouse & Sushi Bar recently signed a lease to open in a former Ruby Tuesday restaurant at 8120 Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights, according to owner Johnny Zhang of Hot Springs, Ark. The restaurant is aiming for a July opening and will seat about 200, Zhang said. The building will undergo extensive renovation prior to opening, he said.
