Domino’s claims taste-test victory over Pizza Hut, Papa John’s
Domino’s Pizza is claiming victory for its newly reformulated pizza in a taste test against Pizza Hut and Papa John’s, according to this Nation’s Restaurant News (nrn.com) story.
You can read the Domino’s press release here about the “independent, blind taste test of nearly 1,800 random pizza consumers from eight U.S. markets” that led to Domino’s victory claim.
After writing about the new Domino’s recipe in December, I tried the “new” pizza in January, and must admit, I was pleasantly surprised — the sauce, in particular, had a nice red-pepper kick to it. It was a distinct improvement over what I remember of the “old” Domino’s pizza, although it had been quite a while since I’d tasted Domino’s.
Was it better than the pizza served by some of this area’s finest pizzerias? It was not. But it was pretty darn tasty pizza — better than I expected.

Was excited about trying the “new” Domino’s. Very disappointed. The quality of delivered pizzas is getting worse, not better. LaRosa’s has lost most of its local appeal and is too expensive. Try Chester’s on Rt. 4 if near Fairfield or Hamilton for the best local pizza. Worth the drive to pick up.

Just tried the new Domino’s this week. A Pan Pizza with Extra New Sauce. It’s ok. Not the best I’ve ever had, but definitely not the worse. Pretty good for a National Chain Pizza. The worse I’ve ever had is at Marion’s!! Crap on a cracker! I refuse to set foot in their locations. People who like Marion’s have never had good pizza.

If the comparision was between Domino’s and MArions’, that wouod be a good comparison, but Pizza Hut and Papa John’s???? come on - they both taste like cardboard! Marion’s is the only good pizza in town!

I had one last week and thought it still tastes terrible and cheap. Come on people, do you think a 5 dollar pizza has good toppings and dough? I’ll stick with papa johns

We ordered two pizzas from them recently. The veggie on thin crust was pretty good but the pepperoni and mushroom on the hand tossed was a grease pit. The grease nearly soaked through the box. We’ll stick to thin crust when we order again.

I agree that none of the chains are great pizza, but the “new” Domino’s pizza is by far better than their old. The dough tastes better, love the garlic butter they brush on it. So far they are getting my delivery business over PH and PJ, which by the way is our only choice.

It was okay pizza - nothing great. It was pizza. It did not taste much different than their old pizza.

I tried the new formula Domino’s and really didn’t taste much difference from the old formula. I will always have a soft spot for it, but Papa John’s has been my pizza of choice lately.

Even the diehard anti-chain pizza folks i know who’ve tried it says it’s not too bad. I’ll still take Palermo’s Sicilian, but for $6 and indiscrimianting tastes (kids, Skyline fans), it will do

PizzaLuver…you have me convinced. I will give it a try! LMAO @ Pizza the Hut and his comment about beating Papa Johns being easy to do. :-)

I was pretty good the first time, but it wears thin awfully quick. by my third time having it, the luster had worn off. I didn’t really think their old style was all that bad for cheep pizza.

Let me be the first to state the obvious. Beating the taste of Papa Johns and Pizza Hut wasn’t too hard I’m sure. I could do that myself, with some brands of frozen pizza for that matter. Having said that, the new Dominos recipe is better tasting, and usually fairly cheap as well.

I was not a fan, by far, of Dominos Pizza, but after advertising a new sauce and a good special on price I ordered one. It was wonderful, I got the thin crust and it was crisp the sauce tasty. I had the pizza a few days later it was so good. Three days ago I ordered a pizza from Pizza Hut, who was always a fav,and it was awful in comparison, bland and greasy. I was really surprised by the change. Dominos has my vote for best delivered pizza!
